New Windows 8 User Interface in Progress Looks like a Big Smartphone: Is That a Feat of Programming Past the Normal PC User?
Windows is building a new Windows 8 User Interface that looks a lot like a big smartphone in terms of the way it is operated.
There is no question that might be "cool" but we continue to have the feeling that Microsoft is not paying attention to what the PC users NEED and WANT. There may be a convergence of technologies to some degree of course -- that is inevitable -- but smartphones are used for different reasons than PCs and require differing basic programming and user-oriented design strategies. That is what is wrong with the Microsoft Ribbon -- a pain for a normal PC user.
I for one am also not interested in a touch screen for my PC because 99% of what I do is better done with a typewriter or a mouse. Hence, all of these razzle-dazzle touch-centric features leave me unimpressed. They are fine for smart phones or e-readers, but those serve vastly different user functions.
